After 18 months of rigorous testing by NASA, the Fisher Space Pen was provided to the astronauts because it was the only pen that would write over fingerprints, under water, upside down, on wet paper, in freezing cold (-30F), extreme heat (+250F) and in gravity free space. It has been used by American Astronauts on all manned space flights and by the Cosmonauts of the Russian space program.
Unlike ordinary ballpoint pens that rely on gravity to feed the ink, the Space Pen's replaceable cartridge is pressurized allowing the user to write at any angle, even upside down. All pens are gift boxed, have medium points with black ink and an extra pressurized refill cartridge is included. Refill cartridges with a myriad of colors are available.
